Greetings All,
My response to the comment in my last posting prompted this! I
recently asked an art critic friend in NYC "Why would an artist want
to be represented by Jenkins Johnson Gallery or John Pence Gallery in
San Francisco when they can make more money selling there own work on-
line, and also maintain artistic freedom in the sense that there is
not a gallery dictating what they should paint {as in Mary Boone
asking Eric Fischl to paint more figures, or the Medici Family placing
pressure on Michelangelo to add more cobalt blue to his painting
adorning the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?}

After all, the artist only receives 50% of what's sold, and often
times less. The critic's response ways: "I have not seen ArtNews or
Art In America Review art that is exhibited on the Internet" Since
then I've spoken to several other critics and art historians and
believe that things will be much different very soon! Is it true that
"A Painting A Day" movement is about the Democratization of Art and
how artists surface throughout the world? I'm very interested in
hearing about the unique perceptions of artists regarding the art
being created that is part of the new "online paradigm: A Painting A
Day" I've just thought of these ideas below, and now I must study what
I see on-line more carefully to look for both aesthetic and conceptual
parallels to see what else is emerging in specifically an artistic
sense.

Artist's Unique Perceptions Regarding The New International Art
Movement: "A Painting A Day"

Daily Painters Movement
Abstract of Core Artistic Ideologies

New York Art Collection, United States, will be curating an on-line
exhibition focusing on diverse sensibilities connected with
contemporary still life painting.

Underlying Principles
=B7        The group strives for mastery of craft through a regimented work
ethic that involves making paintings on a daily basis.

=B7        The underlying artistic principle is rooted in representational
image making, lucidly defined as realism. There exist diverse
approaches to representational image making, however the approaches
are predominately connected with ideals associated with Photorealism,
hyperrealism, and traditional naturalist painting.

=B7        Simplified, often-singular compositions involving one object in a
shallow space.

=B7        The foundation of the work is rooted in Formalism, with several
artists drawing parallels between inanimate still life objects and
their unique social or political concerns through the use of light-
handed metaphor.

=B7        Contextual themes identified: American popular culture, branding,
beauty, spirituality, light, mystery, mortality, nature, Darwinism,
Physics, gravity, nostalgia, existentialism, alchemy, poetic
associations, family, love, solidarity, peace, ethics, morality....and
lots more. Many of these ideas I see emerging through the use of
metaphor.

=B7        The movement is not dictated or influenced by the inner workings of
traditional institutions such as museums, galleries, critics, art
publications, and corporations. Although the painters maintain strong
affiliations with private collectors internationally and one another.

=B7        There exists an emerging sense of ethos among the painters that
originated from the new art marketing paradigm existing on the
Internet, and perhaps centered around Ebay. Although the predominate
catalyst for the on-line community is the confluence of various cyber
elements, including popular auction sites, blogs, youtube and message
boards through Google Groups.

Please E-mail your ideas to: Groat_H@sunybroome.edu, and also post!
I'm looking into curating an exhibit in Manhattan, but need to
continue to study this new movement!

Most Sincerely,
Hall Groat II, American Artist & Independent Curator
