About the Art
In an effort to accommodate every budget, this gallery offers a wide range
of limited edition reproductions priced from $200. The more expensive prints
are VLE (very limited editions, numbering between 200 and 650.) Historically
and traditionally, VLE prints have increased in value second only to
originals.
In the case of limited editions, two numbers are assigned to each print. The
first number reflects the edition, the second reflects the total print run.
For example, 100/200 means that you have acquired edition number 100 out of
a print run of 200. Each edition within a print run has the same initial
value and will generally appreciate at the same rate, although some
collectors impute a greater value to lower editions.
These limited edition reproductions are created through a process called
Giclee (pronounced gee-clay). Giclee is a high-resolution digital print that
is created by a series of tiny jets spraying millions of droplets of
printing ink onto the highest quality archival artists' canvas. The spray
generates more than 4 million droplets of ink per second hence the name
Giclee, French for "fine spray." A precise computer control panel insures
consistency of hue, value, and density.
Giclee's are of such phenomenal quality that even some art experts have
difficulty telling a Giclee from an original. This fact has prompted museums
and collectors to substitute Giclee's for originals, thereby safeguarding
priceless works in vaults.
Since the Giclee process produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes
(with over three and a half million colors possible) and as the resolution
is 2-3 times that of lithographs or serigraphy a Giclee captures every
nuance of an original.
Each limited edition you purchase is accompanied by a "Certificate of
Authenticity" signed by the actual artist. As this COA validates the limited
edition, it should be safeguarded for resale purposes and/or insurance
valuations.
