I don't know if I'm going to open up a hornets' nest - whether it be
craftily or in a fine art style. Please, where does the line - if
indeed there is one - come between the two?

This afternoon I was told that my work drops firmly into the craft
category, yet in the past it's been accepted within fine art. Does
anybody else have problems like this?

Comment welcome

Without question I see your work as 'Art' and a 'Fine Art' at that. Though
I see craft as an 'art' as well it must have the additional feature of being
functional. 'Art' feeds the soul, 'Craft art' feeds the soul does it's
chores. I don't see one as being superior to the other. Just different
things.

For me there is no better definition than the quote below,
And I'll passively resist anyone who disagrees with me!

:-)

Whoever works with their hands is a labourer.
Whoever works with their hands, and their head is a craftsman.
Whoever works with their hands, and their head, and their heart, is an artist.
- St. Francis of Assisi

Thanks for that Steve. I think I'll keep a copy by me in case of future
need:-))

All the same, fine arts v crafts - is there still an area of contention
or is that all behind us now?

I believe there is some contention, though I feel it is generally from
those with a posterior(!) view. NOT Potters, they have a more balanced
approach in my experience.

There is another fairly vulgar definition which I'm rather fond of:

If you can pee on it it's Art
If you can pee in it it's Craft.
